Digital Literacies and My Identities

The Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) survey noted that internet user in Indonesia has reached 78.19 percent in 2023 or penetrated 215,626,156 people. But, in the education quality survey issued by Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), Indonesia is ranked 72nd out of 77 countries. Observers believe that teacher competence is low and the education system is too old-fashioned to be the cause. But, based on a survey conducted by PISA released by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2019 said that Indonesia's literacy level in the world is low, ranking 62 out of 70 countries.

I believe that the digital technologies will increase Indonesia's education and literacy level if we can use it wisely. The 4.0 Digital Era is impactful for the better education especially in Indonesia.

There are so many way to open the discussions.

Look! We can discuss with different place and people. We can gathering with our family (Picture 1) to discuss something in dining room. Beside that, we can open discussion with our work team in cafe (Picture 2). And then, The students (Picture 3) are engaged in a conversation with their peers inside the library.

~> I agree with that. It can solving the problem.

b) I think not all students are aware of how digital spaces can support their personal interests.

~> Sadly It's true. I hope all students can aware and use the digital spaces correctly to support their personal interests.

c) I guess our information and communication technology (ICT) lessons should show us how to make the best use of digital technologies for a better life.

~> I couldn't agree more. It's true if ICT lesson should show us for a better life.

d) I argue that students should start to use technology as producers, such as to create software, not just as consumers.

~> I agree if the students should know about the newest technology, but I think each students have different way to reach the dream, such as producers of technology, dentist, teacher, and many more.

e) I don't agree that parents use their fear to technology, such as becoming addicted and wasting time, to prevent their kids from using social media and online spaces for learning.

~> Thank you, but I have to say if I disagree with this statement. Personally, I think it's OK if parents use their "fear" to technology, if they can control the "fear". Sometimes technology can makes their kids become addicted and wasting time. Parents should control their kids for playing social media and online space from cyberbullying.

1. Do you have any idols or favorite public figures?

~> Of course I have a lot of favorite public figures. One of them is Ria Sukma Wijaya or we can call her Ria SW.

~> I follow her all social media, such as Youtube, Instagram, and Twitter.

3. If you do, is there any of her/his statement or opinion posted on her/his social media that struck you the most?

~> Yes. You can watch and listen to one of Ria's video below.

4. What does her/his statement say?

~> It's OK if you need a rest for a while for getting the next two steps ahead. It's totally fine if your success takes a longer time than the others. What important is, I want your heart to be happy with everything you do such as complaints, difficulties, the struggle, just take it all. Because that is what you like.

5. What do you think of the statement?

~> I totally agree about Ria's statement. We must focus to ourselves, not them. Each person has their own paths. Just focus on your journey, don't compare it to others journey. Everyday try to become more better and better.
